The excitement of Indonesia's 79th Independence Day was not only felt by Indonesians in the country, but also in the campus park of Universitas Trunojoyo Madura (UTM) which was also attended by students from Palacky University Olomouc, Czech Republic, as well as PMM students from Universitas 17 August 1945. The students majoring in English Literature together celebrated a series of exciting and energetic competition activities in order to commemorate this historic moment. The event entitled "Semarak Lomba 17-an" symbolised the international friendship between UTM and Palacky University students. Although the two campuses are thousands of kilometres apart, the enthusiasm to celebrate Indonesia's independence was shown by actively participating in the various activities organised. The competition consisted of several branches, such as cracker eating competition, sarong relay, rubber relay and moving water from a bottle above the head.
One of the participants from PMM UNTAG, Virgi Senalia, expressed her happiness at being able to participate in this celebration. "This is a great experience. I'm happy to get to know the culture of other countries, they are also very enthusiastic about the competitions that Indonesians usually do during 17an, especially the rubber relay race. We became closer to each other," said Virgi. On the other hand, the chief organiser of the event from UTM, Mirza, stated that this event was a form of cultural and educational cooperation between the two universities. "We want to show that the spirit of togetherness and independence is not limited by cultural differences. Through this event, we hope to build a closer relationship between Indonesian and international students," said Mirza. The "Semarak Lomba 17-an" activity ended with a prize distribution session and closed with a group photo. With this, the participants shared their experiences and impressions during the event. Through this activity, both UTM students, PMM UNTAG students and Palacky University Olomouc not only celebrated Indonesia's Independence Day, but also fostered better cross-cultural understanding, and strengthened friendship between nations. This celebration is proof that the spirit of independence can be felt by anyone, anywhere, and inspires the younger generation to continue to strengthen global solidarity and cooperation.
The student exchange activity between Universitas 17 August Surabaya and Universitas Trunojoyo Madura took place with great enthusiasm on the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. The event was attended by students from both universities, including students from the Czech Republic who are interning at Trunojoyo University, making the atmosphere even more festive. The exchange students of Universitas 17 August Surabaya, participated in various traditional independence competitions. The competitions, such as rubber relay, water throwing, cracker eating, and sarong relay, were full of laughter and spirit of togetherness. The involvement of Czech students in these competitions added to the excitement of the event. Although it was the first time for them to participate in traditional Indonesian competitions, they mingled and enjoyed this unusual experience. My friends and I felt very enthusiastic about the competition. Despite coming from different cultures, the interaction between local and international students created an atmosphere of intimacy. This activity became a place to strengthen friendship while introducing Indonesian traditions to Czech students.
Not only competitions, the event was also enlivened with an art performance the following week. In this art performance, students from Palacký University in Czech Republic displayed their various talents, from music to traditional dances. Their performance became a special attraction and enriched the atmosphere of cultural exchange between Indonesian and Czech students. This event was not only a celebration of independence, but also a means to strengthen academic and cultural relations between Universitas 17 August Surabaya, Universitas Trunojoyo Madura, and international partners. This event is expected to continue in the future, strengthening friendship between nations through education and culture.
