On Tuesday (13/2), the Faculty of Cultural Sciences of Universitas 17 August 1945 (Untag) Surabaya through the English Literature Study Programme held a workshop on writing dissertation research proposals. This activity aims to improve the quality of research and scientific contributions of lecturers in supporting scientific development within the University. The event, which was held in meeting room Q205 of Prof. Roeslan Abdulgani Graha Building, was not only attended by lecturers of English Literature Study Programme, but also lecturers of Japanese Literature Study Programme. Head of English Literature Department of Untag Surabaya - Dr. Pariyanto, M.Ed. said that this activity is very helpful for lecturers who want to continue their doctoral programme. Writing a dissertation research proposal must involve important aspects such as phenomena relevant to the topic, relevant previous research and adequate problem formulation. In line with this, the speaker who is a Professor of Indonesian Literature Criticism at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) - Prof. Dr. Anas Ahmadi, S.Pd., M.Pd. said that research that is worth researching is research that pays attention to the urgency but is interesting. "So in writing this dissertation research proposal, it is necessary to pay attention to the topic of discussion that will be researched. The interesting side and the urgency side are also very important parts, because this shows that our research is worth researching," said Prof Anas.

On this occasion, the lecturers were also invited to share experiences and best practices in handling challenges that may occur during the research process.
As a follow-up step, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences plans to continue organising similar activities to support the academic and research development of lecturers. "With this workshop, it is hoped that the quality of research in the faculty can continue to improve, make a positive contribution to the development of science, and improve the reputation of the faculty. in the development of science, and improve the reputation of the faculty at the national and international levels," hoped the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Untag Surabaya - Mateus Rudi Supsiadji, S.S., M.Pd.
